The competition is heating up!

Our recent race weekend at Haverfordwest was a great success. Despite some less than great weather for arrivals on Friday the weekend weather was a welcome return to long periods of sunshine. We were made to feel very welcome by the airfield staff who turned out specially and gave us the whole airfield to play with as it is normally closed at weekends. The fueling from a bowser was especially appreciated by the race pilots.

Saturday’s practice was a smooth one with 7 aircraft entered and the race was carried out in great weather with a 20-30kt wind to make things interesting. Result on Saturday was 1st Martin Gosling 2nd Dave Moorman 3rd Gordon Bellerby

Due to the poor forecast for the south of England on Sunday 3 of the pilots decided to

depart on Saturday evening to miss the forecast IMC conditions. The committee debated cancelling the Sunday race but decided to carry on with 4 aircraft as the IMC would not impact the officials who had all arrived by road.

Sunday’s weather was even better than Saturday’s with clear blue skies and a warm, if a strong wind. With only 4 pilots one of us was going to be disappointed…

The result was 1st Jonathan Willis 2nd Dave Moorman 3rd Gordon Bellerby

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the officials who made the very long journey to the west of West Wales – It is really appreciated by all the pilots and navigators

A special thanks also to Bob Ellis who acted as liaison with the airfield and minibus driver – Thanks Bob!

Next Race weekend is Sandown on 24th/25th July and this is a special one! the 90th anniversary of the outright British win of the Schneider Trophy. Pilots get your entries in! and hopefully we can have some spectators if the restrictions are lifted on the 19th as planned.

Happy Flying and see you at Sandown
